Day 0 |
Airport Transfer and BriefingIf you have chosen the airport transfer option, we will collect you from either Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha Airport and transfer you to your accommodation in Moshi. A briefing will be conducted at your Moshi hotel. It is recommended to arrive at least one day before the trek begins. The day will include a pre-trek briefing, equipment review, and equipment rental arrangements. Meals: Not included Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi |
Day 1: |
Hotel to Machame CampThe journey from Moshi to Machame Gate takes approximately 45 minutes. The route passes through the village of Machame on the mountain's lower slopes. We start from the park gate and trek through the rainforest on a winding trail up a ridge. At lower elevations, the trail may be muddy and slippery, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. After a short distance, we reach Machame Camp.
|
Day 2: |
Machame Camp to Shira CampAfter breakfast, we leave the rainforest glades and ascend on a path, crossing the valley along a steep rocky ridge. The trail then turns west towards a river gorge, leading us to the Shira campsite.
|
Day 3: |
Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco CampFrom the Shira Plateau, we continue eastward up a ridge, passing the junction towards Kibo's peak. Further along, our direction shifts to the southeast, leading us to the Lava Tower, also known as the “Shark’s Tooth” (elevation 4650m/15,250ft). Descending from the tower, we reach the junction for the Arrow Glacier, ultimately arriving at Barranco Camp. This day is crucial for acclimatization, despite ending at a similar elevation as the start.
|
Day 4: |
Barranco Camp to Karanga CampAfter breakfast, we ascend a steep ridge known as the Barranco Wall, leading us to the Karanga Valley and the junction connecting with the Mweka Trail.
|
Day 5: |
Karanga Camp to Barafu CampWe continue to ascend to Barafu Camp, marking the completion of the South Circuit with various summit viewpoints. Here, we rest, have dinner, and prepare for summit day.
|
Day 6: |
Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka CampIn the early morning hours (midnight to 2 am), we embark on the challenging ascent to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Progressing northwesterly, we navigate heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This segment is mentally and physically demanding but culminates in a breathtaking sunrise at Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's highest point. Descending, we return to Barafu for lunch before reaching Mweka Camp, our final night on the mountain.
|
Day 7: |
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to HotelAfter breakfast, we descend to Mweka Park Gate to receive summit certificates. Lower elevations may be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. Shorts and t-shirts should be adequate, but have rain gear and warmer clothing ready. A vehicle will be waiting at Mweka gate to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.
